On Thursday, 6th August 2026, the North Tongu District Assembly supported sanitation activities in Mepe as part of ongoing efforts to promote a clean, healthy and safe environment for residents.

The exercise involved street sweeping, the lifting of refuse containers near Royal Masito Guesthouse, the evacuation of refuse dumps around the RC School and the desilting of drains within the community. These activities were undertaken to improve environmental cleanliness, enhance drainage and reduce sanitation related risks within Mepe.

The exercise brought together residents, Assembly staff, sanitation workers and other stakeholders who contributed their time and effort towards improving the sanitation conditions of the community. Their participation demonstrated the importance of community involvement in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.

The District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, commended the residents, Assembly staff, sanitation workers and all stakeholders who contributed to the success of the exercise. She emphasised that maintaining a clean environment requires the collective effort of individuals, households, communities and institutions.

She encouraged residents across North Tongu to take sanitation seriously by properly disposing of waste, keeping their surroundings clean and making responsible waste management a daily habit. She further urged community members to support regular sanitation exercises and take ownership of the cleanliness of their respective communities.

The North Tongu District Assembly remains committed to working with residents and stakeholders to improve sanitation, protect public health and promote sustainable environmental management across the district.

Together, the Assembly and residents can keep Mepe and North Tongu clean, healthy and safe for all.
