North Tongu District has strengthened maternal and child healthcare with the commissioning of two modern 15-bed Mother and Child Health Units at the Volo and Fodzoku Health Centres on 28th and 29th August 2026.
The facilities, fully funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and implemented in partnership with Engage Now Africa, are expected to serve more than 19,000 people across the two catchment areas. They will provide improved antenatal, delivery, postnatal and referral services.
The District Chief Executive, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, expressed appreciation to the project partners, the District and Regional Health Directorates, traditional leaders, health workers and other stakeholders for their contributions towards improving healthcare delivery in the district.
She also acknowledged the continued support of the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, towards healthcare development in the district.
The commissioning marks the third health project delivered through this partnership in North Tongu within one year, highlighting the importance of collaboration in expanding access to essential healthcare services.
The Assembly remains committed to working with development partners and relevant stakeholders to improve healthcare infrastructure and ensure better access to quality maternal and child health services for residents.
