On Thursday, 16th July 2026, the District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, joined His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama during the first day of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Volta Region for the official sod cutting ceremony for the construction of the 24 Hour Economy Market and Commercial Centre at Juapong.

The project forms part of the Government’s flagship 24 Hour Economy Programme, an initiative designed to stimulate local commerce, create employment opportunities, strengthen entrepreneurship and expand economic growth across the country. Upon completion, the modern market and commercial centre is expected to improve trading conditions, support local businesses and serve as a catalyst for economic transformation within the North Tongu District.

The ceremony was attended by the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Hon. Fiifi Kwetey, the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, the Volta Regional and North Tongu Constituency Executives of the National Democratic Congress, traditional authorities, Assembly Members and other distinguished guests.

Addressing the gathering, President John Dramani Mahama reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to implementing policies and projects that promote inclusive economic growth, create sustainable employment and improve the living conditions of Ghanaians through strategic infrastructure investments.

Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe expressed her profound appreciation to His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his promise to the people of North Tongu and for his unwavering commitment to the district’s development. She also commended the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his relentless advocacy and dedication to attracting transformational development projects to the district.

The District Chief Executive further welcomed the Government’s reaffirmed commitment to the revitalisation of the Volta Star Textiles Factory, the proposed Volivo–Dorfor Adidome Bridge Project, as well as the ongoing Sege–Aveyime–Battor–Mepe, Aveyime–Asutsuare–Dorfor Adidome and Podoe–Abutia road projects. She noted that these strategic investments will significantly improve transportation, boost industrialisation, facilitate trade and create employment opportunities for residents across the district.

The sod cutting ceremony marks the beginning of another major development initiative for North Tongu and underscores the Government’s commitment to delivering transformative infrastructure that promotes economic growth, strengthens local enterprise and improves the quality of life of the people.
