On Thursday, 9th April 2026, the North Tongu District Assembly held a special assembly sitting to elect a presiding member. Two candidates contested the position: Hon. Tse Kofi Jupita Azietor, the outgoing Presiding Member, and Hon. Ernest Adika. Out of 44 expected voters, 42 Assembly members participated in the election.
At the end of the initial voting and a rerun, Hon. Tse Kofi Jupita Azietor secured 23 votes while Hon. Ernest Adika obtained 19 votes. However, neither candidate attained the required threshold for election, resulting in no winner being declared.
In accordance with the directive of the Electoral Commission, the assembly will reconvene within the next ten days to conduct another round of voting to elect a presiding member.
Members of the assembly have been urged to uphold the principles of democracy, unity, and cooperation as efforts continue to achieve a successful outcome in the next round of voting.
