On Saturday, 8th August 2026, the District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, joined the Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, traditional authorities and other distinguished guests at the Grand Durbar of the 70th Afenorto Festival in Mepe.
The grand durbar provided an opportunity for the people of Mepe to celebrate their rich cultural heritage, traditions and history while bringing together traditional leaders, government officials, community leaders, residents and visitors. The colourful celebration reflected the strong cultural identity and unity of the people of Mepe.
Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe was honoured to deliver remarks during the celebration, where she highlighted the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of Mepe, strengthening unity and fostering collaboration towards the continued development of the community and the wider North Tongu District.
The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, used the occasion to account for Government’s development interventions in North Tongu and highlighted ongoing projects and development plans for the district. Among the initiatives highlighted was the Volta Economic Corridor, which seeks to unlock the economic potential of the Volta Lake and create opportunities in agriculture, trade, tourism and water transport.
The District Chief Executive also commended the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his continued commitment to improving education across the constituency. She specifically acknowledged his donation of 3,000 pieces of furniture to support schools and ensure that pupils and students across North Tongu have access to improved learning environments.
As the people of Mepe commemorate 70 years of the Afenorto Festival, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe extended her warmest congratulations to the revered chiefs, queens, the Mepe Development Association and the resilient people of Mepe.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the North Tongu District Assembly to working with traditional authorities, community leaders, development partners and residents to preserve the district’s cultural heritage while advancing development and improving livelihoods.
The 70th Afenorto Festival marks a significant milestone in the history of Mepe and provides an important platform for celebrating heritage, strengthening unity and inspiring collective action towards a more prosperous future for Mepe and the North Tongu District.
