On Monday, 3rd August 2026, the North Tongu District Assembly, through the Disability Fund Management Committee, supported 15 Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) with deep freezers as part of its economic empowerment programme.

The support forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusion, economic empowerment and improved livelihoods among Persons Living with Disabilities across the district. This latest intervention marks the fourth round of support provided to PWDs by the Assembly this year.

Speaking during the presentation, the District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting Persons Living with Disabilities in various areas of their development. She noted that the provision of equipment and other forms of assistance is intended to help beneficiaries establish or strengthen sustainable income generating activities.

Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe assured beneficiaries that the Disability Fund is being disbursed in accordance with approved guidelines and encouraged them to make productive use of the items received. She emphasized the importance of using the deep freezers to strengthen their businesses, improve household incomes and achieve greater economic independence.

To promote accountability and ensure that the intervention achieves its intended objectives, the Assembly has established a monitoring team to follow up with beneficiaries and assess how the support is being utilised. The monitoring process will also provide an opportunity to identify challenges and provide appropriate support where necessary.

The District Chief Executive expressed her appreciation to the Disability Fund Management Committee, the District Coordinating Director, the District Social Welfare Department, Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) and all other stakeholders for their continued support towards the implementation of programmes that promote the wellbeing and economic empowerment of Persons Living with Disabilities.

She encouraged all beneficiaries to use the opportunity responsibly and strategically to expand their businesses, improve their livelihoods and provide better support for their households.

The intervention reflects the North Tongu District Assembly’s continued commitment to inclusive development, social protection and creating opportunities that enable Persons Living with Disabilities to participate meaningfully in the economic development of the district.
