DCE OVERSEES RELOCATION OF JUAPONG MARKET TRADERS TO PAVE WAY FOR 24 HOUR ECONOMY MARKET PROJECT

On Saturday, 11th July 2026, the District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, supervised the successful relocation of traders from the Juapong Market to a temporary trading site at the Juapong RC Basic School to facilitate the commencement of the construction of the proposed 24 Hour Economy Market.

The relocation exercise marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the Government’s flagship 24 Hour Economy initiative, which seeks to expand economic opportunities, improve market infrastructure, enhance trading conditions and create sustainable livelihoods for traders and residents within the Juapong community and the North Tongu District.

The exercise was carried out peacefully through the collaborative efforts of the North Tongu District Assembly, Assembly Members, traditional authorities, security agencies, market leaders and traders, ensuring that trading activities continue with minimal disruption while preparations begin for the construction phase of the project.

Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe expressed her sincere appreciation to the management and staff of the North Tongu District Assembly, Assembly Members, traditional authorities, security agencies, market leaders, traders and all stakeholders whose cooperation and commitment contributed to the smooth and successful relocation exercise.

The District Chief Executive also conveyed her gratitude to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his visionary leadership and the introduction of the 24 Hour Economy initiative, as well as the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for his continued commitment to the development of the district and his support for transformational infrastructure projects.

Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring the timely execution of the Juapong 24 Hour Economy Market Project and working closely with all stakeholders throughout the construction period. She noted that upon completion, the modern market facility will provide an improved trading environment, stimulate local economic growth, create employment opportunities and contribute significantly to the socio economic development of North Tongu.

The relocation exercise underscores the Assembly’s commitment to implementing impactful development initiatives that promote inclusive economic growth, improve public infrastructure and enhance the welfare of the people of North Tongu.
