North Tongu District Assembly Holds First Public Hearing on 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan at Mepe

The North Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region has organized its first District Public Hearing at Mepe, marking a key milestone in the preparation of the 2026–2029 Medium-Term Development Plan (MTDP).

The event, coordinated by the District Planning Coordinating Unit (DPCU), brought together traditional leaders, Assembly Members, heads of decentralized departments, civil society groups, youth and women associations, religious bodies, and other local stakeholders.

The hearing provided a participatory platform to discuss the district’s current development challenges, validate data collected during the situational analysis, and gather additional input from residents. Key issues raised included poor road conditions, limited access to potable water, inadequate health and educational infrastructure, youth unemployment, and the need to accelerate post-flood recovery and resettlement interventions following the 2023 Akosombo Dam spillage.

Speaking at the forum, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to inclusive planning and citizen participation. She emphasized that all feedback from stakeholders would be reflected in the new MTDP to ensure equitable and sustainable development across the district.

The hearing recorded strong attendance and active engagement, highlighting the community’s dedication to shaping the district’s development agenda.
