Battor, North Tongu – 26th May 2025

In a move to improve the quality and safety of meals served to schoolchildren, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, led a special capacity-building and health screening session for caterers under the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP).

Held on Tuesday, May 26, 2025, the event brought together caterers from across the district for a day of practical training and health checks. The initiative aimed to ensure that food handlers are not only medically fit but also equipped with the necessary knowledge to prepare nutritious, hygienic meals for pupils in basic schools.

A major highlight was a detailed educational session facilitated by the district nutritionist from the North Tongu Health Directorate. Topics covered included:

1. Child-focused nutrition and balanced diets.
2. Proper meal planning and preparation techniques.
3. Safe cooking practices and kitchen hygiene.
4 Health screenings to assess caterer fitness.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Doe emphasized the district’s commitment to the success of the School Feeding Programme:

“As District Chief Executive, I am committed to ensuring that every child under the GSFP in North Tongu receives not just a meal, but one that is nutritious and hygienically prepared to support their learning and well-being.”

She praised the caterers for their active engagement and encouraged them to put their new knowledge into daily practice for the betterment of the district’s schoolchildren.

This initiative reflects the North Tongu Assembly’s broader focus on education, health, and youth development through improved public service delivery.
