The North Tongu District Assembly has been recognised as one of Ghana’s best-performing Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies following the release of the 2025 Public Financial Management Compliance League Table (PFMCLT) by the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy (CLGA), with support from the European Union.

The Assembly achieved an outstanding milestone by securing 1st place in the Volta Region and 5th place nationally out of all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies. This remarkable achievement reflects the Assembly’s unwavering commitment to strengthening public financial management, promoting transparency, ensuring accountability and delivering efficient public services.

The Public Financial Management Compliance League Table is an evidence based assessment that evaluates the performance of MMDAs across key areas of financial governance. These include development planning, composite budgeting, procurement and contract management, accounting and financial reporting, as well as internal and external auditing. North Tongu’s exceptional performance across these indicators demonstrates the effectiveness of its financial management systems, institutional capacity and commitment to good governance.

In a formal commendation, the Deputy Executive Director of the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy, Mr. G. G. Tetteh, acknowledged the Assembly’s achievement, stating that its commitment to improving public financial management and ensuring compliance throughout the public financial management cycle had been recognised. He noted that the North Tongu District Assembly placed fifth nationwide out of the 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies assessed.

The Assembly was officially invited to the launch of the 2025 Public Financial Management Compliance League Table Report, held at the British Council Auditorium in Accra on Wednesday, 8th July 2026, where its achievement was celebrated alongside other top performing Assemblies from across the country.

The District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, expressed her appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to strengthening local governance and public sector accountability. She also commended the District Coordinating Director, management, staff of the North Tongu District Assembly and all stakeholders whose dedication, professionalism and teamwork contributed to this remarkable achievement.

Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, fiscal discipline and accountability while continuing to implement policies and programmes that improve service delivery and enhance the quality of life for the people of North Tongu.

This national recognition reinforces the North Tongu District Assembly’s position as a model of excellence in local governance and public financial management, reflecting its continued dedication to responsible leadership, institutional effectiveness and sustainable development.
