From 20th to 26th June 2026, the District Chief Executive for North Tongu, Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe, joined a high level Ghanaian delegation to Japan for strategic discussions with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on funding opportunities for major infrastructure projects within the district and surrounding communities.
The engagement focused on the proposed Volivo–Dorfor Adidome Bridge Project, with the delegation participating in final discussions towards securing support for the project. The team also explored additional funding opportunities for the Battor–Mepe–Dove Road Project, two major infrastructure interventions expected to improve connectivity, enhance trade, promote economic activities and accelerate socio economic development within North Tongu and adjoining communities.
The Ghanaian delegation was led by the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, Member of Parliament for Adaklu, and included Togbega Patamia Dzekle, officials from the Ministry of Roads and Highways, the Department of Roads and Highways, the Embassy of Ghana in Japan, representatives from the JICA Ghana and JICA Japan teams, as well as traditional leaders.
The discussions provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Ghana and Japan while highlighting the importance of strategic infrastructure investments in driving national and local development. The proposed projects are expected to significantly improve transportation networks, create economic opportunities and enhance the movement of people and goods across the region.
Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe expressed her profound appreciation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Governs Kwame Agbodza, and the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, for their continued commitment to advancing critical infrastructure projects that will transform communities and improve livelihoods.
The District Chief Executive reaffirmed the commitment of the North Tongu District Assembly to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable development and strengthen the district’s infrastructure base. She expressed optimism that the engagements in Japan will contribute to the successful delivery of these landmark projects for the benefit of the people of North Tongu and beyond.
The visit further underscores the importance of international partnerships and strategic investments in advancing infrastructure development and unlocking the economic potential of communities across the district.
