On Thursday, 4th June 2026, communities across the North Tongu District actively participated in the National Sanitation Day exercise, demonstrating a collective commitment to maintaining a clean, safe and healthy environment. Despite the heavy rains that affected the district the previous day, residents turned out in their numbers to support the nationwide initiative and contribute to improving sanitation within their communities.

The exercise brought together Assembly staff, security agencies, community leaders, sanitation workers, youth groups and residents who undertook various clean up activities, including desilting drains, clearing overgrown vegetation, sweeping public spaces and collecting refuse from key locations across the district. Their dedication reflected the shared responsibility of protecting the environment and preventing sanitation related diseases.

In the absence of the District Chief Executive, the exercise was successfully coordinated under the leadership of the District Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Gideon Amegbor, and the District Forestry Officer, Mr. Divine Seckey, whose efforts ensured the smooth organisation and implementation of activities across the district.

Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Yawa Doe expressed her sincere appreciation to Mr. Gideon Amegbor, Mr. Divine Seckey, Assembly staff, traditional authorities, stakeholders, community leaders and all residents who contributed to the success of the exercise. She commended their resilience and dedication in ensuring that the sanitation campaign achieved its intended objectives despite the unfavorable weather conditions.

The District Chief Executive reaffirmed the commitment of the North Tongu District Assembly to promoting environmental cleanliness through sustained public education, community participation and regular sanitation exercises. She encouraged residents to make good sanitation practices a daily responsibility in order to protect public health and preserve the environment.

The successful observance of National Sanitation Day once again highlighted the importance of collective action and community ownership in building a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable North Tongu for present and future generations.
