North Tongu Launches Sanitation Day with District-Wide Clean-Up Exercises

Juapong & Battor, North Tongu – October 10–11, 2025

The North Tongu District Assembly has successfully launched the National Sanitation Day initiative and carried out district-wide clean-up exercises to promote hygiene and community participation in environmental sanitation.

The district launch, held at Juapong Market, was attended by Hon. Victoria Amefadzi Doe (DCE), the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Emmanuel Laryea Tetteh, assembly officials, traditional leaders, and representatives from Zoomlion Ghana Limited and the Ghana National Fire Service.

In her address, Hon. Doe commended President John Dramani Mahama for reintroducing the initiative, urging residents to make cleanliness a daily habit for improved health and sustainable development.

Pupils from Juapong R/C Basic School actively joined Assembly staff, Zoomlion workers, and residents in cleaning the market and desilting gutters. Similar exercises were held the next day at Battor Market and across other communities, led by Assembly Members.

At Battor, pupils, market women, youth groups, and chiefs, including Mamaga Adzo Sreku IV, Queen Mother of the Mepe Traditional Area, participated, emphasizing unity and discipline in maintaining cleanliness.

Zoomlion Ghana Limited provided logistics such as refuse trucks and cleaning tools, while the Ghana National Fire Service offered technical support.

The successful events not only improved sanitation but also revived community spirit and civic responsibility. The North Tongu District Assembly pledged to sustain the momentum through monthly clean-up exercises, continuous education, and collaboration with traditional authorities and community groups.
